<strong>Title: </strong><strong>Ramayana Revisited: A Tale of Love &amp; Adventure</strong><br />

</strong>Ramayana, the epic has been performed by many different cultures and interpreted in various ways. Students will see the world of Ramayana through the Performing Arts as they take part in our interactive dance tours and adjoining activities! Choose from Chinese, Indian or Javanese performing arts for your students to experience and learn. Facilitators of the tours will focus on expressions and hand gestures which will make Ramayana come alive for students. Workshops are catered to different levels and are closely linked to essential skills.<br />

<b>PRIMARY SCHOOLS:</b><br />
<br />
<i>Dance of the Golden Deer</i><br />
Students go on an interactive Chinese Opera tour, to learn how various characters, animals and emotions are depicted in the story. In the follow-up activity, they will try out some of the moves with the help of our facilitators.<br />
<br />
<i>Sita sings the blues</i><br />
Love, sorrow, joy, fear and anger are all expressed by characters in Ramayana. Students learn through an interactive dance tour, how these emotions are expressed. They will wear dance bells and costumes and try out the moves as a follow-up activity and perform for one another.<br />
<br />
<i>Out goes the arrow! The story of brave Rama</i><br />
How are battle scenes depicted in Indonesian shadow puppetry? Students learn these techniques and experience how characters and emotions are shown in a shadow puppet performance. Thereafter, they will take part in a shadow puppetry workshop. <br />

Subjects covered: English, Drama, Music.<br />

<b>SECONDARY SCHOOLS:</b><br />

<i>Journey to the forest</i><br />
Students learn how scenes in the Ramayana are acted out in Chinese Opera in an interactive tour. They will then engage in a mini-performance. Students go on to discuss about themes in the Ramayana, communicating their ideas about whether decisions made by various characters in the story were successful. <br />
<br />
<i>Chronicles of Ayodhya</i><br />
Students go on an engaging Indian dance tour and then take on the role of reporters. Using clues given by facilitators and also by going around the exhibition to find out more about what is happening to the royal family, they create their own newsletter about Ramayana. <br />
<br />
<i>Trials of Rama</i><br />
Students experience the story of Ramayana through Indonesian shadow puppetry. After an interactive tour, the facilitator takes on the role of Rama who will be put on trial so that students can question the decisions he made, specifically about ruling Ayodhya and his personal life as well. A discussion about kingship and diplomacy will follow.<br />

</strong><i>Am I a good ruler?</i><br />
Students go on an interactive tour seeing Ramayana through Chinese Opera. Thereafter they engage in a debate about kingship and governance in Ramayana and then relate it to the ruling system they are familiar with.<br />
<br />
<i>White, black or grey?</i><br />
Students experience Ramayana through Indian dance and learn about how characters are not completely good or bad. Facilitators will help students explore the concept of good and evil. Students will debate whether the characters are all completely good or completely evil<br />
<i><br />
To be or not to be?</i><br />
Many decisions made in Ramayana could be considered as controversial. Students will learn about the many dilemmas faced by characters in Ramayana through a hands-on tour where they can handle Indonesian shadow puppets. Students then have to think creatively about alternative endings to the Ramayana. They will then write a script and act it out for their classmates.<br />
